"A 20th century classic, Baracuta have been producing their G9 jacket since 1937. The G9 is the original Harrington jacket, much copied, but the definitive is only made by Baracuta."

Why Are They Famous?

The style of Baracuta clothing is generally understated with a definite retro feel. They make a full range of clothes from jackets, shirts, tops and trousers. Their clothes have been worn by many of England's youth for the last 50 years, so the brand has an authentic history that is rare in today's marketing-led world.

As affluence spread in the post-war 1950's, youth culture developed in post war England, and teenagers didn't want to copy the styles of their parents. Whilst there was no notion of teenage clothing, kids took the clothes of their parents and styled them by combining different items to create a 'look'. This organic process was impossible to foresee or influence - happily for Baracuta their G9 Harrington jacket was picked to be worn by groups of teenagers who were influenced by the America 'Ivy League' look.

The Baracuta G9 Harrington jacket therefore became a favourite of Mods and Skinheads in the 60's and 70's in England. It has also been worn by legends such as Steve McQueen, Elvis and Frank Sinatra, and more recently by Liam Gallagher and Daniel Craig amongst others.

Made in England?

Well, Baracuta still make some of their Harrington jackets in England (see the Made In England range), although they also sell some G9 Harrington jackets that are made overseas, and sell for a lower price. Most or all other Harrington clothes are made overseas.

Still Relevant?

Yes, definitely. The preppy, classic look never really becomes unwearable, and certainly at the moment it's undergoing a revival, with lots of imitators. These are classic clothes that will never completely fall out of style.
